Dog Training: Getting Your Dog To Come When Called

Article Title: Dog Training: Getting Your Dog To Come When
Called
Author: Cindy Heck

The importance of making your dog come every time you call him
is often neglected not unless something like leash breaking or
your dog chasing occur. It is dangerous and often destructive
when your dog is out of control. They could harm people and
destroy property. Worse than that, vehicles could hit them
especially when you live in the city.

Keeping your dog off leash or unsupervised will give him idea
that there are more fun and exciting things to do without his
owner being around. Moreover, he will think that having your
presence will limit his activities and ruin his happy moments.

The rationale is that when your dog is having a good time in
the park with his other dog friend when suddenly you came, told
him that is enough, and come with you. If you are in the dog's
shoe, of course, you will not like to stop the fun. This is the
reason why dogs hated the collar and leash. Since dogs do not
want to end up the fun, their tendency is to pretend that they
did not hear you. For dogs, ignoring you make sense. However,
although this thing could be beneficial to dogs, it is not true
on the other hand to dog owners.

If your dogs has not yet get this kind of idea, it is best to
not let this happen anymore by spending time and supervising
your dog. Make your bonding or playing moments with your dog
more fun and exciting than playing with their dog friend.
However, if your dog has already this misbehavior problem, going
back to obedience training is the best option to do.

The most important thing to consider every time you call your
dog to come is the next thing he will do after he comes to you.
Make sure that the activities you will make him do will not
discourage him to come to you next time you call him. Try
playing, feeding and walking with him after you call him. always
avoid giving him bath or taking him to the veterinarian after
you call him so as not to associate the command come here with
some not so fun activities.

Dogs look up to their owners as the pack leader. They always
seek guidance from them. Therefore, it is important that you are
consistent with your actions and make every interaction with
your dog more fun and exciting. Moreover, the key to successful
and effective obedience training is giving your dog proper
praise and treats every time he does well. Rewards may come as a
food or as a toy. Just keep in mind to give your dog only small
pieces of food so as to prevent your dog from getting bigger and
gaining fats.

Pet Insurance Why Bother?

Article Title: Pet Insurance Why Bother?
Author: Terry King

I recently read a piece of advice to pet owners that really
annoyed me, basically the author suggested that pet insurance
was a waste of money and pet owners would be better off putting
the money in a savings account to cover any unexpected vets
bills. The argument went along the lines that over the average
10 year lifespan of a dog, the owner was statistically unlikely
to recover the £2200 in estimated premiums.

No way you, you don't say what a genius! Pet insurance is just
like any other insurance, its money you pay for piece of mind,
just incase something goes wrong. Most of us have household
insurance, or contents insurance, so we know that we will have
enough money to cover costs, in the statistically unlikely event
of the worst happening. There is no way I would expect to claim
all of the £40,000s or so I expect to pay in premiums on my home
and its contents during my lifetime. I accept that in return for
knowing should I be unlucky enough to have a flood or be burgled
I will be able to replace damaged or stolen items; in return the
insurance company is allowed to make a profit.

Let's say I applied the advice to my home insurance and rather
that taking out a policy I put the money away in a savings
account. If I was lucky and the next 10 years were uneventful in
say ten years I would have a tidy nest egg, which would cover
most but not all eventualities. However if I was unfortunate and
after only a few months my bathroom flooded, (as recently
happened), I would not have saved enough to cover the cost of
repairs or damaged possessions.

The same principle is true with Pet Insurance, if I chose to
put the money away in a bank account I could be lucky and never
need to touch the money until my pet dies. On the other hand I
believe that with my luck, after only a few weeks my dog or cat
are more likely to contract an illness, that is only treatable
by the most expensive drugs known to the veterinary world. In
this hypothetical case, by this time I would have saved just
enough money to say "Hello" to the vet.

I guess that a good way to make a decision about pet insurance
is to decide what type of pet owner you are. I think for the
sake of argument we should create two broad categories of Pet
Owners.

The first type we can call the "I'll do anything for my Pet,
whatever the cost Clan".

The second we'll name "I do whatever is reasonable, but if the
cost's start mounting it's just a Dog or Cat people".

I don't intend to pass comment on the rights or wrongs of
either attitude, both types of people would consider themselves
responsible pet owners and who am I to disagree.

But I do suggest that you might want to decide which of the two
descriptions most closely describes you, before making a
decision whether or not to take out pet insurance.

If you think that you are closer to former than the latter,
then I would strongly advice you to take out Pet Insurance.

If you feel your attitude is closer to the latter, then hey
live a little Insurance is for wimps!

How To Help Your Dog's Painful Joints

Article Title: How To Help Your Dog's Painful Joints
Author: Jean Morgan

Dogs are a man's best friend because they simply make excellent
companions and remain constantly loyal. They share many of our
joys and can alleviate our sorrows. However, that is not all
they share with humans. Just like humans, dog's can have
arthritis too and it is just as painful and as debilitating for
dogs as it is for humans.

Dog arthritis is an ailment that greatly challenges a dog's
quality of life because the joint problems that they encounter
limits their mobility and disallows them to do certain
activities that they used to enjoy like taking walks and being
generally active. Dog arthritis is especially common in dogs of
a large breed.

Dog arthritis can set in with age, especially if your pet is
over weight, and dog arthritis can result from physical trauma.
The pain your pet experiences from dog arthritis is due to the
breakdown of cartilage surrounding his or her joints that cause
extreme discomfort during movement. The same thing happens to
humans who have arthritis.

You may begin to suspect that your pet has dog arthritis if he
or she begins to exhibit signs of difficulty in jumping or
climbing steps. Dog arthritis will also pose as a challenge for
your dog to get up from resting and will begin to make your pet
reluctant to walk or play. The pain that your pet experiences
from dog arthritis is comparable to those in humans because the
cause is pretty much the same. This is why medications for dog
arthritis can be similar to those for humans.

You will need to check with your vet and work with him on the
best medication for your pet's dog arthritis. Keep in mind
however that these medicines can be quite costly and some may
have side effects on your beloved pet. It is therefore very
important to understand and discuss these at length with your
vet so that together you can decide the best treatment for your
pet's dog arthritis.

Aside from medication, there are other ways that you can help
alleviate your pet's suffering from dog arthritis. You can start
by making sure that your pet has a very comfortable bed. The
hard floor or a stiff and rigid place of rest can further
aggravate the pain that your pet goes through because of dog
arthritis. It would also be advisable to raise your dog's bed
appropriately to prevent your pet from bending his or her joints
too much.

You should also watch your dog's diet and maintain a healthy
weight. The heavier your dog, the more impact his or her joints
have to endure which causes more pain in the case of dog
arthritis. You should discuss certain food products that are
good for your dog's diet and weight and also have ingredients
that help alleviate the symptoms of dog arthritis.

Once you find out that your pet has dog arthritis, you should
also begin to minimize his activities and provide for gentler
exercise rather than a rigorous routine. It is still advisable
that exercise be continued provided that you can observe that
your pet can tolerate the activity. If you stop his exercise and
activities altogether, your pet may gain weight and further
increase the gravity of his or her dog arthritis.
