Puppy Crate Training Is Easier Then You Think!

Article Title: Puppy Crate Training Is Easier Then You Think!
Author: Abigail Franks

For many of us, when we picked out a pet, crate training a dog
was probably not on our minds. No matter if your pet is a
puppy or an older dog, we usually had some very specific
thoughts that made the decision to get a pet easier.

Thoughts of simply having a companion around all the time and
someone to keep you company on those long walks may have
started you down the road to animal ownership. While crate
training wasn't the most important consideration in making this
decision, you probably were thinking more of all the positives a
pet can offer. Remember those dreams and desires as the only
way to have a great companion is to be able to have them be
with you and that means being in your home.

Be aware that there are some people out there that think crate
training is wrong. They do this out of ignorance and don't
truly understand the nature of dogs and canines in general.
These animals need a leader and are very social.

Crate Training is not Harsh or Callous toward the dog. and is
also not...

Pet Storage until you want to play with them again nor is it
kenneling.

Unless you plan to keep your pet outside for the rest of their
lives, it's necessary that house breaking begin almost
immediately to limit the chance of puppy accidents in the
house. While puppy accidents are not a big deal while the
excitement of a new pet is happening, it gets old and
frustrating if it continues long term.
It's better to safely confine your dog and use effective potty
training methods than to end up with an unruly animal that
cannot be trusted to keep your home urine and poop free.

Don't make the mistake of leaving house training for later.
Potty accidents and bad habits developed by your puppy can
increase the difficulty in having success with crate training a
dog later. You want to limit the chance of your dog relieving
himself in your home. It only takes about 5 seconds for a dog
to find an acceptable place, squat and you end up with a mess.
So if you cannot keep watch 100% of the time, your pet needs to
be confined. This idea forms the basis for successful potty
training.

Visit the link below for more information on the easiest way to
house train your dog.

They are fast bathroom animals and only need a few seconds to
seek out a place and go. Accidents in the house are caused by
inattentive pet owners who aren't paying enough attention when
your pet is out of his crate. Some owners think that dogs have
the same reasoning skills as humans. This lead them to believe
that accidents aren't their fault but the animal is relieving
themselves purposely in the house for spite.

Crate training a dog is key if you want to have a reliably
trained companion. Start the training off right by limiting
the possibility of developing bad behaviors before they happen.
One good idea is use a lightweight leash to control your puppy
when bringing them inside your home. This way you can move
them directly into the crate.

Although some dogs may seem to have an obstinate personality
and can be difficult, this is yet another opportunity for you
to keep control. A headstrong dog will soon associate that
being good and having your approval equals freedom and being
near you. This is a big benefit of confinement and the use of
housebreaking methods to establish who is the alpha dog or
leader of the pack.

Your end goal is to get your dog trained to be a follower of
you, the alpha or leader of the pack. During this very
critical time of crate training a dog, you need to focus on
consistency in your behavior so your pet can learn what is
expected of him.

So take the time to learn how to teach your puppy what is
expected of him. You won't be sorry and the lifetime of
enjoyment can't be measured.

Why Do Dogs Bark?

Article Title: Why Do Dogs Bark?
Author: Connie Limon

Barking is probably one of the most negative qualities
attributed to dogs and/or Shih Tzu. Incessant barking is always
irritating to owners and anyone surrounding the incessant
barking dog or Shih Tzu.

Shih Tzu barks for a variety of reasons. Owners need to find
out what is causing the barking before the problem can be
successfully addressed.

Some twelve thousand years ago primitive man and the domestic
dog's ancestors coexisted rather than shared intimate
relationships we enjoy today with their descendants. As dogs
begin to show friendliness, playfulness and alarm barking
humans began to domesticate them. As humans began to appreciate
the dog's presence a bond was woven between humans and dog
companions over time.

Barking due to territoriality most likely served as an alarm
function in days when it was even more important that it is
today to know when someone or something was encroaching upon
human territory.

Another characteristic "some" dogs, and definitely includes our
Shih Tzu is its appearance to the human eye. Dogs that are cute
with infantile facial features which stimulate human parenting
instincts provide additional bonding.

All domestic dogs bark, including the Shih Tzu. Once a chorus
starts every dog within hearing distance will join in. Soon you
have a "barking" orchestra, and if you are lucky enough to be
hard of hearing at that time wearing your hearing aids, just
simply pull them out until the concert is over……..

Barking is one way dogs and Shih Tzu communicates with each
other and with their human companions. I have heard some of my
Shih Tzu actually say words during their barking sessions. Duke
will say: "I'm Mad." "I'm Mad," and at that time I am certain
his barking is most definitely because he is mad about
something. His word was toward one of his buddies. When Duke
wants to be where I am and he is in a spot in which he feels
"trapped," cannot get to me, his bark is much different. It is
more like a "scream." He has not put words together yet, but I
feel fairly certain he probably is saying to me: "let me come
in there, I can't wait any longer, I want in there now!" Once I
allow him his wishes, his barking stops.

Owners need to find out the cause of their Shih Tzu's barking
and then proceed with steps to solve the problem. There is no
way around it. All dogs, including Shih Tzu, bark from time to
time. Some are more vocal than others, just as humans, some
humans talk more than others. I have Shih Tzu that rarely if
ever bark for any reason.

Training Yours Dogs To Develop Desired Behaviors

Article Title: Training Yours Dogs To Develop Desired Behaviors
Author: Doris Ekpere

It is really significant to tutor a dog the appropriate conduct
while it is yet inexperienced. We all know the importance of
playing and having fun with an original pup or dog, what is too
as significant is the demand to tutor this animal expected
behavior, which is for it to recognize behaviors that are
satisfactory and those that are not.

The better warranty that the dog will hear and keep all it has
been taught, is that the lessons must be taught while the dog
is yet a pup. Dogs are known to learn rapidly and every style
of interaction between the dog and its proprietor, is ever
teaching the dog something. As the dog owner, it is your
obligation to teach the dog the correct lessons.

In order to guide the dog as easily as the household and the
community at large, appropriate training strategies are really
significant. If a dog is not decently trained, instead of it
being caring and overprotective, it becomes really harmful and
wild. You as the owner must also take the responsibility for
the dog to become a friendly companion and not a hostile one.

The tie between humans and dogs goes backwards for many
thousands of years, and dogs have been domesticated longer than
any other animals. Therefore, humans and dogs have developed a
bail not shared by many new domesticated animals. This powerful
bail is really helpful when training any dog.

Every prospective dog owners and would-be trainers should
realize how dogs act in the absence of humans. It is
significant to realize the pack hierarchy, and to take that
hierarchy to your reward as you educate your dog. All pack
animals have a lead creature, in the dogs' case it is the alpha
dog. All other members of the pack get from the alpha dog,
instruction and counseling. The alpha dog in turn provides
significant leadership in hunting, fending away other
predators, protecting their territory and new essential
endurance skills. This pack agreement is what has turned wolves
and wild dogs to be such productive predators; even as other big
predators have been driven to extermination.

What all this means to you as the dog trainer is that you must
establish yourself upward as the pack leader – the alpha dog if
you will – if you want to increase the regard and confidence of
your dog. If the dog does not know you as its superior and its
leader, you will not go really far in your training plan.

Respect is not something that can be forced. It is quite
something that is earned through the interaction of human and
dog. As the dog learns to honor and believe you, you will start
to make good progress in your training plan. A training plan
based on mutual regard and confidence is often more possible to
win in the lengthy streak than one that is based on concern and
intimidation.

A scared dog is possible to at one level change to a dog that
bites, and that is unquestionably one matter you do not need in
your life. Rewarding the dog when he does the right thing,
instead of punishing him for doing the wrong thing, is vitally
significant to the success of any training plan.

Punishment simply confuses and further makes the dog more
afraid, and it can set a training plan backwards for weeks if
not months. It is important to give the dog the option to do
the right thing or the wrong then, and to reward the dog when
it makes the right decision. For example, if the dog chases
joggers, have a friend jog by while you hold the dog on the
leash. If the dog attempts to run after the "jogger", sit him
back down and start again. You are not punishing the wrong
decision; you are merely providing the choice. When the dog
remains sitting calmly by your side, offer him a goody and lots
of kudos. The dog will quickly learn that sitting is the right
choice to take and chasing the jogger is the wrong choice.

Natural Flea Remedies For Your Pet

Article Title: Natural Flea Remedies For Your Pet
Author: Dr. Stan

Commercial chemical flea treatments usually work rather quickly
and are easy to use, unfortunately, some pets and their owners
are allergic to them and need a natural flea remedy.
Fortunately for both the pet and pet owner, there are a number
of ways to get rid of fleas naturally. These remedies work for
both dog fleas as well as cat fleas.

The first thing you'll want to do is wash all of your household
bedding, rugs and furniture covers that your pet may have come
into contact with, which will probably be just about everywhere
in your home. Then sprinkle a natural flea remedy of a powdered
form of dried pennyroyal, of the mint family, or pyrethrum
powder on your carpets, furniture and any place where your pet
often sleeps. Repeat this for the next three to four days.

Now it's time to wash your pet using a natural shampoo made of
one cup of a very mild dishwashing detergent and two teaspoons
of eucalyptus oil. Before you wash your pet in this natural
flea remedy, steep pennyroyal leaves in boiling water and then
let it cool. Once you have shampooed your pet and lathered it
up with the shampoo, use the pennyroyal tea to rinse it off.

Prevent Fleas Before They Bite

Pennyroyal planted outside your home will stop a flea
infestation before it has a chance to get inside the house. If
your pet spends part of the day outside and part inside, plant
it where your pet usually hangs out while outside. As a natural
flea remedy, pennyroyal will continue to grow as a ground cover
and is attractive and has a pleasant flowery smell to it as
well.

Another natural flea remedy is to make a small tube for your
pet to wear around its neck and stuff it with pennyroyal and a
few drops of eucalyptus oil. Your tube will have to be
re-stuffed and oiled every few days to keep it fresh.

A homemade flea trap can be created that will serve as a
natural way to get rid of those pesky cat and dog fleas. Fill a
pan similar to a cookie sheet with water and place it under a
light close to the ground. At night, the fleas will jump
towards the light and fall into the water and drown.

Another good idea to prevent flea infestations is to keep your
grass cut short. The heat from the sun will kill flea eggs
before they can hatch. Also, keep your pets away from dark, wet
areas where fleas often lay their eggs and the conditions are
ideal for hatching.
